Background: The Basel statements of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) are the first collection of consistent declarations that reflect the global future vision of hospital pharmacy practice. They constitute six major themes: medicine procurement, preparation, delivery, administration and monitoring, influence on prescribing, and human resources and training.
The present practice test course is intended to check and reinforce healthcare professionals’ knowledge of the practical application of the Basel Statements. In our course, we will provide a comprehensive set of multiple-choice questions on critical topics such as governance, procurement, influences on prescribing, medication preparation and delivery, administration, medicine use monitoring, human resources, as well as training and development.
Course Objectives: Participants will interact with real-world scenarios using multiple-choice questions to test their comprehension of how to effectively implement the Basel Statements in hospital settings. Course outline: The present practice test course provides a comprehensive practice test that covers key themes essential for hospital pharmacy practice as outlined in the Basel Statements.
The first practice test entitled “Overarching and Governance Statements” includes 19 questions focused on Overarching and Governance Statements, examining foundational principles and standards. A practice multiple-choice question on “Overarching and Governance Statements” could assess understanding of the pharmacist’s role in establishing and upholding standards for safe, ethical, and equitable medication practices in a hospital setting.
The second practice test entitled “Theme 1 – Procurement” contains 12 questions, participants will be tested on processes that ensure the safe and ethical procurement of medications. A practice multiple-choice question on the “Procurement Theme” could evaluate knowledge of best practices for transparent, equitable, and quality-focused procurement processes, ensuring that healthcare professionals support the safe and effective procurement of medicines in line with Basel Statements.
The third practice test entitled “Theme 2 – Influences on Prescribing”, contains 18 questions, explores pharmacists’ roles in supporting evidence-based prescribing. A practice multiple-choice question on the “Influences on Prescribing” could assess understanding of hospital pharmacists’ roles in guiding evidence-based prescribing practices, promoting safe medication use, and supporting prescribers in decision-making in alignment with Basel Statements.
The fourth practice test entitled “Theme 3 – Preparation and Delivery” comprises 30 questions that emphasize safe medication preparation, handling, and distribution. A practice multiple-choice question on the “Preparation and Delivery Theme” could assess knowledge of hospital pharmacists’ responsibilities in ensuring that medications are accurately prepared, labeled, and delivered safely to patients, adhering to quality and safety standards outlined in the Basel Statements.
The fifth practice test entitled “Theme 4 – Administration” includes 27 questions on the correct administration of medicines to enhance patient safety. A practice multiple-choice question on the “Administration Theme” could evaluate understanding of hospital pharmacists’ role in ensuring that medications are administered safely and accurately, including clear labeling, appropriate dosing, and minimizing risk, as emphasized by the Basel Statements.
Finally, the sixth practice test entitled “Theme 5 – Monitoring of Medicines Use and Theme 6 – Human Resources, Training, and Development” together comprises 31 questions, focusing on the importance of monitoring medication outcomes and developing a skilled, competent workforce. A practice multiple-choice question on the “Monitoring of Medicines Use Theme” could assess knowledge of hospital pharmacists’ roles in tracking medication effectiveness, identifying adverse events, and implementing improvements to ensure safe, optimal medication use as guided by the Basel Statements. Moreover, a practice multiple-choice question on the “Human Resources, Training, and Development Theme” could assess knowledge of hospital pharmacists’ roles in ensuring adequate staff competency, supporting continuous professional development, and implementing equitable workforce policies in line with the Basel Statements.
